The invasion of the Ukraine by Russia has re-awakened fears across the globe that haven’t been felt for a very long time. God has given an inheritance to each of the nations. In times of unrest it’s important that we take our petitions before God.

When it comes to nation’s leaders, whether it’s Alexander the Great or Vladimir Putin, their actions are ultimately controlled by God, who treats their heart, “like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes” – Proverbs 21:1.

God ultimately reigns supreme and is “ruler over the realm of mankind. It is God who appoints leaders and also hols them accountable. He removes kings and establishes kings” – Daniel 4:23, 2:21.

Because humanity is estranged from God and from one another, the end result is constant turmoil. The longer humanity attempts to rule the Earth apart from God, the more degenerated that rulership becomes.

So, knowing God is in control and has told us in advance what will happen, don’t be afraid of the actions of Russia or any nation, and do pray for the people of Ukraine. Never forget our God is sovereign over everything: “He makes the nations great, then destroys them; He enlarges the nations, then leads them away” – Job 12:23.

It is God’s word that will stand. “The LORD of hosts has sworn saying, 'surely, just as I have intended so it has happened, and just as I have planned so it will stand,'” – Isaiah 14:24.

• Pray for God's peace and reconciliation to overcome all hatred, conflict, and war.

• Pray for followers of Jesus to arise as messengers of His hope to the hopeless and the oppressed.

• Pray for repentance, forgiveness, and unity in the Church, across denominations and traditions.

Yours sincerely,
