There is power and authority in the name Jesus. You have probably heard this expression before, or something along these lines, – but have you ever considered what significance this has in your own personal life?
We often hear and speak about the resurrection of Christ, but do we really understand the significance of this moment and why Jesus Christ was given a name above all names?
Jesus – the most powerful name there is and bestowed by God the Father. Because Jesus made a way for all of humanity to be saved and made right with God: "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10 vs 13 and Acts 4 vs 12). It is because of the sacrifice He made—through living a perfect life, dying a sinner's death, and being resurrected.
Jesus made a way, and the name "Jesus" is powerful because of Jesus Christ, the person, God incarnate, who made a way for our salvation. When we talk about the name of Jesus, we are talking about Jesus Himself, His character and the things He does.
Philippians 2 vs 8-11 says "And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
We are instructed in the Bible to pray in the name of Jesus and with His authority. In John 14 vs 14, Jesus says: "If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it." This is the great promise that is made to you and by faith you will receive it in Jesus’ name.
